Marcos Pinedo, is Regional Director of Developer and Platform Evangelism (D&PE) for South East Asia at Microsoft APAC Regional Head Quarters. Responsible for setting-up and managing the D&PE organizations in SEA countries to help foster their Local Software Economies and build a strong Software Development and IT communities, all the way from Academia to Enterprise customers and helping local Software Independent Vendors (ISV’s) and System Integrators (SI’s) to be more competitive in the local and global market by delivering Innovation.

Marcos has been with Microsoft for over 13 years and prior to joining the Asia Pacific team he was a key member of the Brazilian subsidiary management team as D&PE Director since 2001. Where he pioneered the Innovation Center initiative and created an operational model that has contributed to shape the WW Microsoft Innovation Center program and many other Local Software Economy nativities. In the academic space his team delivered programs to close the gap between the University and the first job opportunity. His team also helped to put Brazil in the top rankings of the Imagine Cup, the World Wide Computational Championship for Students, where Brazil has been the most participative country for the last two years, achieving awards in many categories. Previously Marcos was ahead of the Financial Market  vertical practice of Brazil Microsoft Consulting Services in Microsoft Brazil, managing the first Internet Banking project for Brazilian large banks like Unibanco and also Santander and the new ATM system for Itau, the second largest bank in Brazil. His team also created and developed the Microsoft Real Time Gross Settlement System offering to the Brazilian financial market, adopted by over 30 banks.

Marcos, also had a previous working period at Microsoft’s Head Quarters, back in 1985 working as a Product Localizer Associate (PLA) in Bellevue (and Redmond’s early days), WA, building the first Portuguese product from Microsoft (Word 2.0 DOS). He then left Microsoft and returned to Brazil, opened his own company to be the first distributor of USA software companies like Sybase, PowerBuilder, Q+E Software and XDB Systems. Specialized in Software development and databases, he rejoined Microsoft in 1995 to become one of the first Consultants of the newly formed Microsoft Consulting Services (MCS).
